Are cinemas the hub of culture or is that a funky way of saying our priorities are all wrong?
Personally, I cannot justify going to the movies right now. Do not get me wrong, I am a proud film and television junkie – I can spend days overanalyzing an actor’s performance… However, with countless movies and television shows at our figure tips, what can cinemas give us that we cannot achieve through subscriptions to streaming services?
Buy a projector, move some furniture around and it will be the same thing.
My biggest gripe is the claim that cinemas are supporting Canadian culture. When was the last time you chose an indie-Canadian film over Disney? If the preservation of Quebec art is the motive then why are theatre spaces shutting down? As a performer, it baffles me that the government is prioritizing American blockbusters over local artists.
