My Take: By Matthew McCully

We have bigger problems than a pandemic when our government starts dangling the best parts of life over our heads, tossing down the occasional scrap for good behaviour.
We are social beings, even the introverts among us. To criminalize that quality is, in my opinion, unforgivable.
It’s pretty clear to me why some things are allowed in some places, and other things are not, causing confusion, apathy and distrust.
Money.
Public coffers are running low and revenue must be generated, so anything that serves the economy feigns some immunity to COVID-19 while the very crux of life wilts.
The result is a population living exclusively to work.
This second wave won’t be snuffed out by social deprivation. It will require a clear plan, honesty on the part of our leadership and a willingness to put people before profit.
The best things in life are free.
