Why does an assault on democracy get to be the straw that broke the camel’s back?
Society is tripping over Black lives, Indigenous rights and women’s bodies on a daily basis, but disturb the pieces on a rich white man’s chess board and you’ll have hell to pay.
Now that we’ve seen what sacrificing the truth for high ratings and hiding behind the pillars of democracy instead of defending them does, what’s next?
I know the focus right now is on an angry mob and an outgoing president, but there are bigger fish to fry.
The way forward has to start with people owning the role they played in this mess, and we are all complicit.
Dismissing dangerous rhetoric as comic relief. Replacing political action with memes and slacktivism. Reducing the acts of a madman to entertainment.
And most importantly, putting politics before human lives.
