My Take: By Matthew McCully

Rough week to be a Quebecer. And I’m at the height of privilege here. My plight is strictly embarrassment.
We’ve got Bill 21, upheld in court, with the exception of English school boards. But don’t pat yourselves on the back, we’re off on a technicality, not because of any official opposition. White English people were not out on the streets defending the rights of Muslim women.
And in case our racist tendencies weren’t already well established, the Journal de Montreal just declared open season on the Indian population.
They later issued an apology that I’m sure thousands of xenophobic pent-up Quebecers looking for an outlet for their frustrations will read.
The problem is, if society is at a point where these issues are commonplace, or up for debate rather than quashed outright, we are all to blame.
A single tear won’t stop a tidal wave.
