Enough has been taken away from youth in the past year.
Let them have some semblance of a prom.
Ceremony is really important to mark pivotal moments.
Of all the things that can be cancelled or postponed, life is not one of them.
I can’t imagine what the stress level would be like for kids watching the things they were most looking forward to all their lives pass them by.
I’m the youngest of five kids. A big part of my childhood was seeing my older brothers and sisters live those moments. Grad pics, prom clothes, the dates, the emotion, the drama. I remember feeling excited thinking about when it would be my turn.
Let’s be honest, public health directives change with the wind. And after a year in a pandemic, schools, and parents, and students know how to celebrate safely. So just let them.
