My Take: By Matthew McCully

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week.

I think politicians who abstain from votes chose the wrong career.
I know the motions tabled in Parliament are very complex and decisions shouldn’t be made without careful thought, but there is a big difference between exercising your individual right to abstain, and essentially muting the voice of every one of the constituents you represent.
There’s also a difference between using every tool in your political toolbox and scraping the bottom of the ethical barrel.
Take a position and own it.
It’s bad enough Canadians watch the wheel being reinvented every time there is an election. This time the wheel will turn faster. Our wheel is bigger. We put pink streamers on our wheel for Pride.
Stop spinning your wheels and get to work.
The work, by the way, is doing what’s right and serving the interests of the population, not placating to get re-elected.
