My Take: By Matthew McCully

For months I was chomping at the bit to get back on the pickleball court.
And I was one of the lucky ones. My sport was permitted early on when deconfinement began. Even though doubles wasn’t allowed and everyone had to hang on to their own ball, we made the best of it and followed the rules in place.
Unfortunately, at the park we were tripping over people playing every sport imaginable.
I get why. Being active is inextricably linked to healthy living, it’s an outlet for excess energy and is therapeutic for many.
The problem is, once the flood gates are open there’s no turning back.
I’m worried these days people are making decisions based on what they see other people do rather than how safe it is.
This may be a time for professional sports to lead by example and take things slow.
