The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week the topic was Thanksgiving.
It’s the return to the familiar for me.
Yes, of course there are plenty of routines in my daily life that keep me ticking, but through repetition I end up taking those comforts for granted.
Holidays stick out like a sore thumb.
They are branded with smells and sounds that immediately snap me into relaxation mode.
Over the years traditions have changed, children have grown, food has evolved. But it always feels exactly the same.
Holidays are loud, but filled with quiet moments.
They are rushed, but everything moves so slowly.
And then there is the laughter.
It’s funny how at each holiday, we spend most of our time reliving the last one through our jokes and stories. And everyone subtly keeps tabs on the precious moments and/or the outfits, haircuts and fumbles that will be the subject of next year’s laughs.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
