The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was a wild card.

Anyone else notice the low-hanging fruitness of a protest against public health restrictions at the 11th hour of the fifth wave of a pandemic?

Like, who couldn’t see the end was near?

But now, regardless of what happens, the Ottawa Parking for Patriots project will claim credit for any loosening of restrictions.

Almost makes you wonder if this was really a group of truckers upset by vaccine passport mandates, or maybe a group of opportunists looking to capitalize on political instability?

I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll feel a little queasy come Canada Day after seeing my country’s flag appropriated by supposed freedom fighters holding their compatriots hostage.

And just so we’re clear, I have the greatest sympathy for anyone who was negatively affected by pandemic restrictions, be it mentally, physically or financially. But I have no tolerance for willful ignorance.
