My Take: By Matthew McCully

By Matthew McCully

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was where were you when the pandemic began?

Where was I on March 11, 2020 when the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic?
I was in a very different place, so to speak.

I was 40 lbs lighter, and I could make it through the day without getting emotional.

At this point, I think it’s pointless to try and get back to that place.

I’m forever changed, but I don’t even want to be that person anymore.

Despite all the damage I sustained, emotionally and physically, during two years of extreme stress, I wouldn’t want to change who I’ve become.

I mean, imma hit the treadmill a little harder, yea, but I’m more patient with people, more grateful for the things around me and more cautious in the way I move through the world.

And I will never take my health, or the health of those I love, for granted again.
