My Take By Matthew McCully

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was national pride.

After what the Canadian flag has been through this year, I can’t even look at it right now.
Maybe in a few years the nausea will subside, and the convoy fumes will dissipate.
I’m pretty done with people who won a geographic lottery at birth laying claim to a country, and even worse, daring to suggest how the people living there should look, act or think.
At this moment in time, I don’t identify with a bloody thing going on in or around this country.
And an emotional plea from a graduate of the William Shatner school of pause-acting on July 1 won’t change my mind.
No goosebumps. No tears.
Put down your flags, we have some serious work to do.
Not meetings, not strongly worded emails. Actual work. Uncomfortable things. Human rights stuff.
What we have didn’t come free. And there are other bills.
