My Take: By Matthew McCully

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was the Rogers outage.
I think the recent Rogers outage was a good wakeup call for a lot of Canadians who had yet to notice how the world is changing, and how our privilege is catching up with us.
In the moment I found the situation laughable, mostly because I was just at home cleaning and doing laundry. It didn’t occur to me until later how traumatizing it must have been for medically fragile people to suddenly lose their link to support, or someone with maxed out credit stranded at the gas pump.
For a few decades everything started moving so fast. We got to a point where we could literally have anything we want, whenever we want it.
Then, with the click of a button, or one little virus, everything comes to a screeching
halt.
Ultimately, I think re-evaluating our eggs and our baskets is a good thing.
