My Take: By Matthew McCully

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was electoral reform.
I don’t remember voting for the fox to guard the henhouse.
It’s bad enough politics is a rich person’s game played at the expense of the working class.
Abandoning electoral reform the second a party wins proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the goal is power, not serving the people.
How is that decision even in the hands of government?
Could you imagine what the political landscape would look like if campaign promises were considered a legally binding contract?
There would be a lot of snazzy suits in the unemployment line, and we would probably need to expand our white-collar prisons.
I guess it’s a stretch to expect equity, diversity or inclusion from a government that won’t even acknowledge how unfair the first-past-the-post system is.
What were all these politicians doing in kindergarten while the rest of us were learning how to share?
