When you live out in the sticks (like so many of us know we do), it can be rough trying to find internet that actually works and doesn’t leave you out your whole month’s savings. Good infrastructure is expensive, and the telecom companies don’t jump to running wires to people who live off the beaten path. I was really excited when I heard about the American billionaire Elon Musk’s plans to set up a satellite system that they said would solve this. As the satellites started going up, though, it turns out they were very prone to getting in the way of telescopes and messing up measurements for astronomers and physicists all around the world. Now I’m not so sure how I feel about it all. Connectivity for everyone is incredibly important, but I don’t know if it’s worth cutting us off from the universe.
