My Take: By Michael Boriero

The ritual of forcing our MNAs to swear an oath to the Crown is obviously archaic, and it’s hard to argue with Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon in his blatant refusal to do so.
However, the PQ leader is hardly the first Quebec politician to raise their voice against swearing allegiance to the Crown. The other major political parties in the province also discuss the oath.
The thing is it really isn’t a pressing issue, right? And most of the major parties have acknowledged that eliminating the oath to the Crown is not exactly high on the priority list.
I would venture to guess most folks outside of Quebec politics don’t care about this. Sure, I’d love to see it go. But it really has no impact on an MNAs duty to serve the people. Let’s move on to the next topic, please.
