My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an
opinion on a different topic each week. This week the topic was:
New Year’s.

I’m always baffled when I actually sit back and think about how long we’ve endured this pandemic. This year was rough, there’s no way to sugarcoat it.
Not only did we suffer from one of the worst pandemics, but there were countless events that make me feel like we should just cross out 2020 from our history books.
There was a devastating explosion in Beirut. We lost Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kobe Bryant, Alex Trebek and other legendary figures. There were wildfires in Australia.
But we also witnessed powerful moments. Hong Kong fought for democracy. The Black Lives Matter movement opened our eyes to injustice. And Trump’s reign of stupidity is almost over.
In this unprecedented and chaotic time, we united to combat a deadly virus. Thousands of health care workers gave their lives for us. Now we need to come
out even stronger next year.
