My Take: By Michael Boriero

My Take: By Michael Boriero

I purged my Facebook and Twitter accounts about two weeks ago. If you don’t know what that means, basically I went through my friends list and decided to unfriend a bunch of people.
It’s really nothing personal. Actually, I hadn’t done it in a few years. Most of the time it’s just saying goodbye to that one person you met that one day on a trip 10 years ago.
This time around, though, I chose people I’ve known for a long time. Or at least, I thought I knew them, until I started seeing Covid conspiracy videos, photos, memes and gifs.
Look, you can call me a sheep or fake news, I don’t really care. But spreading false information about the efficacy of masks and vaccines, well, that’s where I draw the line.
Free speech is our right, but sharing misinformation is just plain dangerous.
