My Take: By Michael Boriero

What happened in Montreal on Sunday following Premier François Legault’s recent announcement moving the curfew back to 8 p.m. is both appalling and shameful.
While I fully respect, and support, the right to protest and understand the situation is frustrating for Montrealers, I cannot accept the casual vandalization of small businesses.
This seems to occur at the tail end of many protests. And the story is the same. A small group of violent stragglers wreaking havoc on a neighbourhood, destroying property without remorse.
This time it was in Old Montreal. In the wake of the protest, business owners suffering due to the pandemic were left picking up the pieces of shattered windows.
I think perhaps I missed the point of this barbarism. Or, you know, it was simply a thoughtless, violent act, instigated by a group that actually doesn’t care for the wellbeing of others.
