My Take: By Michael Boriero

My Take: By Michael Boriero

I almost lost my mother when I was younger. I won’t get into specifics, but there are moments in our lives that we carry with us forever. This is mine.
I can’t remember my exact age, but I do know it was around my birthday. While I was old enough to understand the gravity of the situation, I just remember being upset.
It wasn’t the traditional birthday one had come to expect in the Boriero household; my mother cooking up my favourite meal and following it up with a homemade cheesecake or tiramisu.
I felt horrible about my behaviour years later, acting like a spoiled child, knowing full well that I probably got whatever trendy toy I had on my wish list.
She would never hold it against me. She’s too kind to hold a grudge. I hope I never take her for granted again.
