When I look at all of our major sports leagues pushing to come back, despite COVID-19 cases continuing to rise in the United States, well, I shake my head.
I’m an avid sports fan. I love the Montreal Canadiens. I watch basketball, albeit only in the playoffs. The same goes for baseball. I follow most soccer leagues around the world.
I’ve missed sports, but do we really need to rush back to action? Two teams have bowed out of the MLS is Back Tournament due to internal COVID-19 outbreaks.
Players from all major sports have expressed doubt and concern about returning to the ice or field. We aren’t out of the woods yet.
It’s a bit reckless to think we can get away with this. Am I being pessimistic? Probably. But while we’re sitting on our couches, athletes are putting their bodies on the line.
