My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week the topic was Thanksgiving.

I’m not quite sure what happened, and it could be a result of the pandemic, but Thanksgiving has sort of dropped out of my important family events rotation in the last few years.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for seeing my family, catching up with my cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, eating turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes, but it isn’t really like that now.
Obviously, we haven’t exactly been able to have large gatherings since 2019, but on top of that, several family members have moved abroad, and others have started their own families.
I suppose this is something that just happens over time. It might be time to embrace new Thanksgiving traditions, and hey, it doesn’t even need to be turkey anymore, right?
My partner brought home a chicken last year, which I can accept, just don’t try to take away the gravy.
