My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. The topic this week was: Air Canada’s CEO

I think the best part about the interview with Air Canada’s CEO is watching his press attaché scramble to end the media scrum, knowing he just landed himself in hot water.
She was just doing her job, of course, but it absolutely stinks that this pompous rich man ruined her day by making egregious remarks about not having to speak in French.
It was an ignorant comment, and he has already apologized and promised to learn French. But as the QCGN pointed out, the damage is done. He has unwittingly added fuel to the fire.
French language advocates will point to this as yet another example of the privileged English-speaker in Quebec, and it’s truly disheartening to everyone in the community.
I hope Quebecers can understand that he doesn’t represent an entire community that works hard in both official languages on a daily basis.
