My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was internet comments
There is nothing quite like the comment section on any social media platform, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, you name it. I’ve never seen a more toxic place.
My poison is Twitter, and I often wonder why I’m even on there. The vitriol found on basically every viral post will leave you disheartened and concerned for society.
You can find positivity laced in there, too. But even in those comment threads celebrating a local hero, or recognizing another person’s accomplishments, there is rampant negativity.
We forgot how to be human. And the problem is people feel safe behind their keyboards. They know that they won’t face any real backlash for dropping an insensitive comment, or two.
Everyone is loud and obnoxious now, believing their opinions are the gold standard. I should consider taking a break from Twitter, for the sake of my mental health.
