My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was a wild card.

Are you watching the Winter Olympics? I’ll be honest it hasn’t exactly been on my radar. I’m still cheering on our Canadian athletes, checking their achievements over social media, but I haven’t once turned on my TV to watch a live event. And I don’t think I will this year.

I’m getting Fyre Festival vibes and I can’t seem to shake it. I’ve seen an image of a meagre food tray served to a Russian athlete in quarantine. And other athletes have also spoken out about poor living conditions and a lack of training equipment at their disposal.

Also, speaking of Russia, it looks like the country is once again embroiled in a doping scandal, because of course, right? And how about our Canadian women’s hockey team playing an entire game with masks on due to late Covid tests? Yeah, this just isn’t for me.
