My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was unmasked.

With the Quebec government announcing a gradual phasing out of the mask mandate in public places, I’m wondering how many Quebecers are so eager to ditch the facial protection.

I think that after two years, masks have sort of been normalized, right? I’m not sure if it will be around for the long haul, but I for one am not necessarily ready to get rid of it altogether.

It has proven to be an effective tool in stopping the spread of COVID-19, and in other countries, like China, it’s just a normal addition to everyday life when someone’s feeling ill.

Will I wear a mask moving from my table to the bathroom and back? Probably not.

But as we go forward, and Quebec continues to loosen restrictions, just remember that not everyone had the same experience during the pandemic. Many will carry scars forever.
