My Take: By Michael Boriero

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was April Fools

Ah, April Fools’ Day, the one time a year where my social media is flooded with posts discussing new Harry Potter television shows and outrageous sports trades or retirements.

Obviously, they’re never actually real. And of course, I’ve had my heart broken several times. And yes, it’s often Harry Potter related. I won’t apologize for my love of the Wizarding World.

While I can appreciate a little tomfoolery, the online trolls really take it to the extreme on April Fools’ Day. The annoying part is sifting through all of the gags in order to find actual news.

Actually, scratch that, the most annoying thing about the day is getting caught believing one of these egregiously awful and obviously fake announcements. It’s hard to come back from that.

All that to say, I’ll be keeping an eye out tomorrow. I prefer being skeptical, rather than gullible.
