My Take: By Michael Boriero

What happened last Friday with Rogers was kind of a shock to the system, right? I can’t remember a time where a major portion of the country was left without any wireless service.
And I don’t think we’ve been given any real or clear explanation as to why one of the nation’s top wireless networks suddenly crashed, taking down access to emergency services with it.
We should never be left in such a vulnerable position. I can’t tell you that the answer is opening the door to more competition within the industry, but this situation needs investigating.
I know the CRTC has already asked for more details, and a public inquiry isn’t on the table yet, but not out of the question. But what can we expect? Will it be more smoke and mirrors?
Needless to say, there are more questions than answers right now.
