My Take: By Quinn Ruby

Full transparency here: I’m new to the newsroom and, despite having lived in Quebec for four years, new to following Quebec politics. But this is my take, like it or not.
No matter what your political opinion may be, it should be evident to everyone that there is injustice in Quebec’s electoral system. Conveniently, Premier Legault’s 2018 pledge to replace the first-past-the-post system with a mixed member proportional representation system has all but disappeared. It’s hard to encourage and expect high voter turnout when the general feeling throughout the province is that the political system is broken and that your vote does not count.
What kind of democracy is that? Voters want to be represented fairly, something that seems almost impossible right now. As cynical as it might be, Monday’s election is the perfect example of how we may never see a reformed electoral system.
