My Take: By Reann Fournier

When our governments are making decisions and testing the waters by speaking about them before making a final announcement, they’re practicing good leadership by consulting the public. Doing this lets the population have a voice concerning decisions that likely affect their daily lives. I can understand some people’s frustration if these ‘pre-announcements’ do not come to fruition, but it allows for people to plan accordingly. If we take a look at the possibility for an extension on Christmas breaks, for example, those who are hoping to travel to different regions to see family may be able to consider this as a possible plan. As our region is highly populated by university students, they are able to begin their plans to head home for the holidays, which is what everyone would want. I say that discussing decisions like this is part of a good democratic process.
