My Take: By Reann Fournier

Comparisons are tricky, especially when you’re on the more negative end of them. The Quebec government and several people have been using comparisons throughout the pandemic, almost like a way to feel better about the situation. I really think it doesn’t get us any farther, especially considering the province has been one of the higher infected areas through the last nine months.
Yes, if you compare the numbers from the first wave or different areas to understand scientific data, it can be extremely helpful to understand the virus itself, but simply throwing out comparisons to other regions or countries is, in my mind, ineffective and not needed.
The population wants to know what life will look like moving forward, who we can turn to for answers, not those who will simply say ‘well, we’re doing better than the other country, so that’s a good thing’.
