My Take: By Taylor McClure

There is something complex about Mother’s Day. I was blessed to grow up with the influence of two incredible women; my mother and the mother of my best friend. While not my biological mother, she loved me like I was her own and I gained a second family, an incredible one too. That’s why for me, Mother’s Day isn’t just about celebrating the biological mothers, it’s about celebrating the women in our lives that have become mother figures, that have supported us and love us unconditionally like any mother would. It’s about acknowledging the women that want to become mothers but can’t, it’s about acknowledging the women that were mothers but suffered a tragic loss, and it’s about acknowledging the single parent fathers out there that have taken on both roles. There are many people to acknowledge on Mother’s Day; let’s not forget about them.
