My Take: Gordon Lambie

The format of a My Take is 150 words – no more, no less – to express an opinion on a different topic each week. This week’s topic was memories.

Normally I’m all for a light-hearted “my take” topic. Getting down to it, though, I just can’t today.
It’s not that I have a shortage of happy holiday memories to reflect on, but there have been so many things this fall that have made me feel frustrated and conflicted that I just can’t quite bring myself to cheerful reflection.
It needs to be okay to say that.
Lots of people have been having a hard time, but the solution to that isn’t to just plaster joy over top of anger or sorrow and move on with the day.
It’s totally alright to talk about your own happiness or joy if you feel compelled to, but we also need make room for people to honestly live with the feelings they are experiencing for a host of legitimate reasons, and not feel like that is somehow wrong.
