Thanks to $1.4 million in funding provided by Opération Enfant Soleil, in the coming weeks the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS will open a new oral immunotherapy clinic at the Fleurimont hospital to treat children and adolescents with food allergies.
The clinic will use desensitization therapy, giving micro doses of allergens to children and increasing the doses slowly over several months to help them build up a tolerance to foods to which they are allergic. In some cases, the young patients can lose the allergy altogether.
The CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS held a press conference earlier this week to announce the opening of the new clinic and thank Opération Enfant Soleil, a non-profit organization that raises funds to develop high-quality paediatric care across the province, for its financial contribution.
