New bill to protect seniors and vulnerable people in health care

The Quebec Minister responsible for Seniors and Caregivers, Marguerite Blais, and the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, announced Bill 52 on Nov. 5, an act to strengthen the system examining complaints in the health and social services network.
The bill will focus on users receiving services from private institutions. Bill 52 reinforces the protection offered to vulnerable people or those experiencing abuse, particularly seniors, supports the respect for the rights of users, and will hopefully strengthen their confidence in the complaint examination system. It also increases the independence of local service quality and complaints commissioners (CPQS) and medical examiners (ME) and thus improves the application of the complaints review system within health and social services institutions.
