By Matthew McCully – Roughly 300 people filled the William Street Armory in Sherbrooke Wednesday night to attend the launch of the book ‘Visages estriens – Hommage à nos militaires’. The 321-page volume contains the biographies of 150 different locals who served in various military regiments dating back as far as the War of 1812 up to the war in Afghanistan. The idea for the book came about when Société de généalogie des Cantons-de-l’Est (SGCE) member Gilles Samson attended a special ceremony on Nov. 8, 2015 where six local veterans were presented with the National Order of the Legion of Honour of France.
