After losing its autonomy under a 2015 restructuring, the Magog hospital is getting a local operational coordinator. Julie Daviau will occupy the new post. The hospital will, however, remain under the regional health authority, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS.
“It’s a bit like the old director post, but with less autonomy than before,” said Jean-Guy Gingras, president of the Comité de vigie santé services sociaux Memphrémagog, the Memphremagog health and social services vigilance committee. “We’ll have someone on the ground at the hospital.”
Gingras said he would’ve preferred to see the director position reinstated “with the same functionality as before the post’s elimination.”
“For us, it’s a compromise,” he said.
The committee launched to respond to the 2015 changes which Gingras said reduced the quality of healthcare. He said staff shortages have increased problems. The committee aims “to ensure that services return to how they were before the reform,” he said.
