New intermunicipal fire board appoints a director

The Memphremagog East Intermunicipal Fire Prevention and Protection Board, commonly known as the East Fire Board( régie), has announced the appointment of Mr. Eric Richard as Fire Director. At the end of September, 2017, the mayors of Stanstead, North Hatley, Ogden, Hatley, Stanstead Township, Hatley Township, Ayer’s Cliff and Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley gathered in Magog to sign the agreement to merge its fire protection services. According to Hatley Township Mayor Martin Primeau, who designed the project, the goal is to improve the administrative aspects of fire prevention services. Operationally speaking, things are expected to remain the same. In addition to the original member municipalities, the board recently added the municipalities of West Barnston and East Stanstead as members. There are now 10 municipalities spread over more than 646 square kilometers with 17,003 residents and vacationers sharing an operational budget of $ 1.3 million.
