New program considers mental health of repeat offenders in the justice system

Following a 14-month pilot project, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS and partners announced that the PAJ-SM program, designed to assist people with mental illness in the judicial system and offer alternatives to incarceration, is here to stay in the Townships. The program was launched officially yesterday at the Sherbrooke courthouse. The PAJ-SM (programme d’accompagnement en justice et en santé mentale) was developed in collaboration with health and social service professionals and members of the legal community to address the issue of repeat offenders in the judicial system that could be trapped in a vicious cycle due to their mental state.
