News from the Border Curling Club

The Border Curling Club in Beebe (Stanstead) Qc was well represented at the Spring Fling Bonspeil in Petersham, Massachusetts, March 30 to April 2. The Warner Quartet (Maitland Warner, Nicole Poitras, David Edgell, Linda Davies) curled a total of six matches and won the B Division Runner up position. The event consisted of 18 teams, mostly American, curling for four days and evenings to try to make the finals held on Sunday , April 2.

The Petersham Curling Club(est 1960) has a Canadian connection . It is the sister club to the Border Curling Club (est. 1955) in Beebe, Qc, Reason being that the well-known company Butterfields, which employed Canadians and Americans in Rock Island (Stanstead) for over a century, opened a branch of the company near Petersham (Athol, Mass). The president of this new branch transferred from Rock Island and was an avid curler and thus helped to open the Petersham Curling Club. Butterfields was also instrumental in the establishment of the Border Curling Club.
