By Matthew McCully – At a glance, this may seem like a new design for the Canadian loonie, a common practice to commemorate special occasions. Upon further inspection, the dollar piece actually has a sticker attached, depicting a loon covered in oil. It is one of thousands circulating throughout the province and by now, the country, to raise awareness about the potential risks of transporting oil and pipelines. The sticker campaign was launched by the environmental group Coule Pas Chez Nous, and is one of a number of initiatives to keep oil and the environment on the minds of consumers. According to the organization, the stickers do not damage the money, are easily removed and do not impede its use in any way. Published in the Friday, Dec. 28 edition of The Record.
