By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – Five-time X Games snowboarding champion and Olympic silver medalist Maxence Parrot announced on Thursday afternoon that he was diagnosed with cancer over the holidays; stage two Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Parrot was born in Cowansville and currently resides in Bromont. Parrot announced his diagnosis through a live-streamed press conference on the CBC Olympics Facebook page. “I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” he dropped in a shaky voice. “I began chemotherapy last Thursday and I will be treated 12 times over the next six months.” What started as an awkward skin itch in September quickly morphed into a lump in the young athlete’s neck. “I had been travelling around the world when I noticed the lump in mid-November. I got it checked as soon as I came back from my trip and my family doctor sent me in for an emergency biopsy,” he added. Ten days later, on Dec. 21, the cancer diagnosis fell.
