Orford MNA making politics his business

By Matthew McCully – The transition from business professional to politician hasn’t exactly been a walk in the park for Orford Member of the National Assembly Gilles Bélanger.
“It’s like going back to school,” he said. Even so, he is excited to bring his business acumen to the table in an effort to develop the local economy. “It’s like day and night,” Bélanger said, comparing his 35 years in private business to his new role as Orford MNA. “I was not expecting that much structure,” he said, regarding the decision-making process, and more specifically, its timeline. “I expected something like that, but not that amplitude.” In his previous career, Bélanger said he used to start each morning with around a half hour reading the news. “Now, I have an hour-and-a-half of pre-sorted information to read,” he said. “I’m still learning the way we proceed,” commented Bélanger.
