Maire-Claude Bibeau, the Member of Parliament for Compton-Stanstead and Federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food was in North-Hatley on Tuesday afternoon to announce new support from the federal government for the work Bleu Massawippi is doing to combat the zebra mussel.
First, $89,342 is being provided to the organization through Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Eco-Action Program to support the Operation STOP Zebra Mussels project. This funding will go to help fund diving, awareness campaigns, and operational costs paid out by the organization. Second, $50,000 has been provided through Transport Canada for the “ABCs of Boating” initiative, which is focused on encouraging safe and responsible habits in boaters.
