Sherbrooke announced the opening of its refrigerated Bleu Blanc Bouge ice rink on Galt Street West on Monday, marking the start of outdoor skating in the city despite this week’s mild, wet weather. The Bleu Blanc Bouge rink is the first of the city’s approximately 70 outdoor skating rinks to open for the season, and when the Record popped by for a look on Tuesday morning, local residents have already taken to the ice.

University student Marc-Etienne and his friends were practicing their hockey skills on the rink’s first full day of operation, taking full advantage of being the only three people present in the late morning.

“It gets really busy at night” explained Marc-Etienne, sharing that the three of them prefer to hit the ice in the middle of the day.
