Montreal based trio Perfect Perfect has put a new twist on some old songs, and will be passing through the Townships during a summer tour, bringing roots music back to their roots. Zacharie Bachand, from Cowansville, has been a musician for most of his life. When he first began playing, it was in elementary school as an extra-curricular activity. In high school, at Massey-Vanier, he played the trumpet until he picked up the guitar and never put it down again. Perfect Perfect, Bachand’s band, was formed at McGill University in Montreal, where Bachman is currently studying jazz. Two of his peers make up the rest of the group: Alex Kasirer-Smibert on bass and Eric Maillet on drums. The band, according to the founder, is heavily inspired by the early 20th century. “My roots are in agriculture, in the Townships.” he explained. “When I moved to Montreal for Cegep at 17, I missed the rural life.” “Our music is not only drawn from music. Steinbeck has always resonated with me. Even if my living conditions were a lot more comfortable than those of his protagonists, his work still resonated very strongly within me,” said Bachand. “I try to channel the art forms of the early 20th century in my music. Like old photos from the 20’s, or Guthrie’s music.
