A local cross-country athlete has achieved a lifelong dream of representing Canada on the international stage.
Perry MacKinnon, of Coaticook, had his childhood dreams come true as he represented Canada in the mixed relay at the World Athletics Cross-Country Championships in Bathurst, Australia on Feb. 18.
The World Championships represented many firsts for MacKinnon. It was his first time in Australia, his first world athletics competition representing Canada and also his first time running a relay.
Running in 34-degree heat and through sporadic showers, MacKinnon, along with his teammates Matthew Beaudet, Kate Current and Erin Teschuk combined for a running time of 24 minutes 55 seconds to place eighth of 15 teams.
“I had an unforgettable experience at Worlds. It was definitely one of the funnest races I’ve ever been a part of,” said the 25-year-old from Cornell University. “I’m excited to use this experience to keep pushing myself further in the sport.”
