The Phenix dragonboat team, associated with breast cancer support organization La Rose des Vents, celebrated its twentieth anniversary this past weekend with a special gathering at Sherbrooke’s Lucien-Blanchard Park.
“It’s a chance to share what we do and say thank you to the population that we come to so often with fundraisers,” said team member Line Hamel, explaining that past members and a couple of local VIPs were invited, as well as the general public.
The team currently has 27 paddlers, all of whom are either breast cancer survivors or are currently in treatment, and nine “Phenix du Coeur,” members who do not get into the 20-person boats for a variety of different reasons.
