Kaylen Gauthier was traded to the Sherbrooke Phoenix in December last year after spending nearly four years with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, and now he will be leading his new team as captain for the 2022-2023 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) season.
“I’m 20 years old and I feel like this is the year to prove myself and not only on the ice. I have more to prove than that. I need to prove this year that I can be a big brother for the younger guys. I can be a guy that will show the way work ethic-wise and discipline-wise,” he said.
Gauthier is supported by three assistant captains: Anthony Munroe Boucher, Joshua Roy and Tyson Hinds. The announcement came during the team’s annual golf tournament last week. The event is used as a fundraiser to cover the educational expenses of the Phoenix players.
