The Sherbrooke Phoenix defeated the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 2-1 on Friday night to complete a three-point weekend.
The win improved the Phoenix’s record to 7-9-3 on the year, and put them three points clear of the Armada in the West Division standings. Sherbrooke is currently 13th overall, two points back of Charlottetown.
All the scoring on Friday happened in the second period. The Armada’s Christian Bloomqvist opened the scoring at 5:03 of with a power play goal. Sherbrooke replied at 13:47, as Guillaume Gauthier found the net, also on the power play. Skyler Strumas scored the game-winner at 16:29, his second goal of the season.
Evan Fitzpatrick picked up the win for Sherbrooke, stopping 29 of 30 shots, while Samuel Montembeault took the loss for the Armada, making 22 saves.
The Phoenix have picked up points in five straight games, but, but it hasn’t come easily. On Thursday, Nicolas Poulin scored with 30 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and salvage one point, but the Phoenix fell to Rimouski 5-4 (SO).
Gauthier had two goals for Sherbrooke, while Vincent Delsauriers had the other.
Anthony Chapados, Michael Joly, Simon Bourque and Matous Belohorsky scored for Rimouski. Dillon Montcalm had the shootout-winning goal in the eighth round.
