Phoenix reduced to ashes

The Sherbrooke Phoenix season has come to an end.

After winning the first two games of the best-of-seven series with the Halifax Mooseheads, the Phoenix have dropped four straight games.

The Phoenix season officially came to a close after they hosted the Mooseheads in Game 6 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League semi-finals on Sunday evening.

Despite five powerplay chances and firing 42 shots on goal, the Phoenix couldn’t beat Mooseheads goalie Mathis Rousseau. The second-year goalie secured his second straight shutout and didn’t allow a goal in the final 133 minutes of the series.

“He made some fantastic saves this series,” said Phoenix head coach Stéphane Julien. “There were important times to gain momentum in Games 3, 4 and 5 and it was the difference. We believed a lot in this team from the beginning. It’s very hard knowing our season is over.”

Josh Lawrence’s ninth goal of the playoffs, scored in the second period, stood as the winner as the visiting Mooseheads defeated the Phoenix 1-0.
